McGee's Moped Mob

Quite a few months ago there was a fizzle and pop inside a bloke called Ian McGee’s head The fizzling and popping startled his little brain cell and sent it into a frenzy. “I’ve got an idea” the man said to a couple of friends.

McGee’s Moped Mob was born that night, the Manorlands (Sue Ryder) Hospice was chosen as the charity and the run would be coast to coast.

Ian then dropped another bomb shell, fancy dress would be compulsory...... could it get any worse!  < <
So if McGee's the guy with the pointy finger and the handsome ventriloquist dummy sat on his knee, who and where are The Mob?

The Mob are a vast and veritable motley crew. Armed to the teeth with spanners, chewing gum and sellotape in fact anything that might come in handy for fixing a limping moped.

And here we are in our finery!

McGee's idea had taken root and next came weeks of patiently sitting and watching Ebay, then the buying, collecting and restoring or just getting those damn mopeds (49cc with pedals) up and running, MOT'd insured and taxed. Some of these bikes had not seen an open road in over 30 years.

The bikes ranged from the rev and go PUCH Maxi and HONDA to other stuff like FS1E's, two and three speed PUCH's, HONDA SS50's, one of which was absolute mint and a real credit to Spiderman. There was also a CASAL, an AP SUZUKI which has to be the fastest moped going - the Harley riding marshal had trouble keeping up with him - enough said!! Last but not least was a lonely 1963 NSU QUICKLY, the oldest bike on the run and not called quickly for nothing I hasten to add.

On the run up to the Coast to Coast main event the Moped Mob ran a sponsored charity time trial for the benefit of local Keighley youngster Callum Mynott which raised a grand total of £1600.
